By card type, the split is 81 characters, 16 events and 3 fields, plus the 6 Action Points. By trait (the "Trait" other cards check to trigger effects): 39 Gotei 13 cards, 26 Wandenreich and 5 Royal Guard. The rest have no trait.
You notice it when you open boxes: the set is built with a symmetry you rarely see. Three colors, 33-33-34 cards and exactly four SR in each. Bandai wanted any of the three colors to be a deck on its own from the first product, and it shows.
How the set plays, color by color
If you come from another TCG, two quick Union Arena notes first. A deck is exactly 50 cards (characters, events and fields) plus 3 Action Point cards, with a maximum of 4 copies of the same number. Each player places 7 cards face down in their Life Area and you win by leaving your opponent with none. Characters are played on the Front Line (they attack and block) or on the Energy Line (they provide energy), and they move between the two during the Move Phase.
With that in mind, here's how each UA08BT color plays:
- Yellow (Wandenreich). Aggressive control. It rests your opponent's characters and then removes them. Medalize (033) removes an opposing Front Line character with up to BP3000, rising to BP5000 if you have Yhwach in play or your opponent has a character with Raid. Äs Nödt (004) rests an opposing character with BP3000 or less every turn and, with Impact 1, goes straight for the life cards.
- Purple (Ichigo and friends). Everything revolves around the Outside Area. You build up cards there (with Rukia, with Urahara) and then send them to the Remove Area to pay for effects. Ichigo 041 lowers an opposing character's BP based on how many cards you have moved.
- Green (Gotei 13). Team synergy. When Yamamoto comes in with Raid, he moves every Gotei 13 character from your Energy Line to the Front Line and gives them BP+2000 when attacking. It is the big-turn play of the set.
The 12 SR
Four per color, all at BP4000 with two exceptions. Yhwach and Rukia come in at BP4000+ (the "+" means the card raises its own BP with its effect), and Yamamoto is BP5000, the highest in the whole set.

The 6 Action Point cards
AP cards don't go in the 50-card deck; they're the three cards you set aside to pay costs. Bandai gives them their own art and spreads them at random across six designs, which makes them collector items, and in this set they are among the hardest pulls.

Yellow · the Wandenreich (33 cards)
Most of the Sternritter, with Yhwach on four different cards. It is the set's aggressive color: removing your opponent's characters, resting cards and punishing anyone who sits still. The four yellow SR are Äs Nödt, Bambietta Basterbine, Jugram Haschwalth and Yhwach himself.

The 26 parallels and how to read them
Parallels share a number with the base card; only the finish changes and, almost always, the illustration. You tell them apart by the stars printed next to the rarity, at the bottom left:
- One star (19 cards). Not all of them are on rare cards. There are 10 SR★, 8 R★ and 1 C★ (Rangiku 089). On the SR★ cards the art covers the whole card, with no frame and the name written vertically in romaji; the R★ and the C★ keep the normal frame with a gold sketch behind the character.
- SR★★ (6 cards). One step up: a different illustration, a gold frame and, on several of them, black-and-white line art, like a manga page. They are Ichigo (041), Renji (047), Byakuya (050), Kenpachi (081), Hitsugaya (085) and Yamamoto (093).
- SR★★★ (1 card). Only Ichigo 041. The name runs in large English type over the illustration. It's the top card in the set.

What collectors chase in this set
No figures, because secondary prices move every month. This is the order of demand on the Japanese secondary market:
- Ichigo Kurosaki 041 SR★★★. The card of the set, no contest. A step above everything else.
- Hitsugaya 085 SR★★ and the Ichigo and Kenpachi AP cards. AP cards pull much more interest than people expect: they don't go in the deck, so they're collected for the art.
- Kenpachi 081 SR★★ and the Hitsugaya and Mayuri AP cards.
- Byakuya 050 SR★★, Rukia 053 SR★ and Renji 047 SR★★, the classic purple block.
- Yamamoto 093 SR★★, which is also the card with the most BP in the set.
Watch out for promos: besides the pack cards there are promo versions numbered UAPR/BLC-1-xxx (Ichigo 041 and Rukia 053, including "WINNER" variants). Those are promo and tournament cards and don't come in UA08BT packs. If you're hunting the full pack set list, the code you want starts with UA08BT, not UAPR.
Vol.1 in 2026: does it still make sense?
For playing, yes, and there's proof that's hard to argue with: the Advanced Deck [UA01DC] that came out on 11 September 2026 reprints thirteen BLC-1 cards. Three years on, the purple Ichigo and Rukia engine built here is still the base of the archetype.
Opening boxes takes patience. UA08BT is a 2023 set and no longer ships as a new release, so sealed boxes are harder to find than they used to be. Our Union Arena collection has the Japanese boxes we carry, and our WhatsApp group is where we post first. To open Bleach now, the alternatives are Vol.2 [EX07BT], which introduced the foil signatures, and Vol.3 [EX15BT], out since 11 September 2026.
And there's a third route many people don't know about: this same set exists in English. Bandai released it as UE01BT on 4 October 2024. It isn't a copy: the English pack has 12 cards instead of 8 and the breakdown changes (12 SR, 17 R, 35 U, 34 C and 6 AP). The card numbering does share the series, UE01BT/BLC-1-xxx, so the set list reads the same as the one above.
And if you come from another Bandai game, you'll see the family resemblance: the Naruto Card Game follows the same release approach (Japanese sets first, event promos, tiered parallels).
FAQ
How many cards are in Union Arena BLEACH Vol.1 [UA08BT]?
106 different cards: 100 playable (12 SR, 18 R, 35 U and 35 C) plus 6 Action Point cards. On top of that there are 26 parallel versions, which don't count as new cards because they share a number with the base card.
When did UA08BT come out, and what came out with it?
On 29 September 2023, the same day as the Starter Deck BLEACH Thousand-Year Blood War [UA08ST], a ready-built 50-card deck with 18 different cards, 3 Action Point cards and a play sheet.
How many packs are in a UA08BT box?
16 packs of 8 cards each, so 128 cards per box. That is the standard Union Arena Booster Pack configuration.
Which colors are in the set?
Three: yellow, purple and green, split almost exactly evenly (33, 33 and 34 cards) with four SR in each color. Blue didn't reach Bleach until Vol.2 [EX07BT], in July 2024.
Which Vol.1 card is the most wanted?
Ichigo Kurosaki UA08BT/BLC-1-041. It is the only card in the set with an SR★★★ parallel, the top tier, and it also has SR★ and SR★★ versions. Behind it come the six SR★★ (Ichigo 041, Renji 047, Byakuya 050, Kenpachi 081, Hitsugaya 085 and Yamamoto 093) and the six Action Point cards.
What do the stars on the parallels mean?
They're printed next to the rarity, at the bottom left of the card. SR★ is the extended-art parallel; SR★★ has a different illustration and a gold frame; SR★★★ is the top tier, with the character's name in large type. Vol.1 has 19 one-star parallels, 6 two-star and 1 three-star.
Does Vol.1 have cards signed by the voice actors?
No. Foil-stamped signatures arrived with Vol.2 [EX07BT], which Bandai announced as "finally including signed cards". In Vol.1 the SR★★ parallels are alternate art with no autograph.
Can I use Vol.1 cards in a deck with Vol.2 and Vol.3?
Yes. The rules let you mix cards that share the three-letter series code after the slash. BLC-1 (Vol.1 and Starter Deck), BLC-2 (Vol.2), BLC-3 (New Card Selection) and BLC-4 (Vol.3 and Advanced Deck) are all "BLC". The only limit is 4 copies of the same card number.
Is it still a good set to start with?
For playing, yes. It is the base of the purple Ichigo and Rukia archetype, and the 2026 Advanced Deck [UA01DC] reprints thirteen of its cards, which says a lot about how current they still are. For opening boxes, be patient: it's a 2023 set, and sealed boxes are harder to find than they used to be.
Is this set available in Spanish or English?
Not in Spanish. In English, yes, but as a different product: UNION ARENA BOOSTER PACK BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War [UE01BT], released on 4 October 2024 (pre-release from 27 September) alongside the Starter Deck [UE01ST]. It isn't a straight copy of the Japanese set: the English pack has 12 cards instead of 8, and the breakdown changes slightly (12 SR, 17 R, 35 U, 34 C and 6 AP). The numbering does share the series: UE01BT/BLC-1-xxx.
