The Grass block of ME01 opens with the Bulbasaur line and its headline evolution, Mega Venusaur ex. It also brings plenty of classic evolution lines such as Exeggcute, Tangela, Chikorita and Seedot. Shuckle, Celebi and Dhelmise round out a varied, nostalgic group, and at 18 cards it's the biggest type in the set.
Fire Type
The Fire block is led by Mega Camerupt ex. The Vulpix/Ninetales line has a loyal following, Chi-Yu brings Gen 9 power, and the full Scorbunny to Cinderace line is a fan favorite. Centiskorch and Volcanion complete the type.
Water Type
Water is one of the most complete types in the set. Mega Abomasnow ex is its Mega ex (yes, Abomasnow is Water here, not Grass). The full Sobble line, the legendary Kyogre and the Snom/Frosmoth pair are the highlights. Eiscue closes the block.
Lightning Type
Lightning is small but strong. Mega Manectric ex is the star, backed by the full Magnemite to Magnezone line and the legendary Raikou. Pachirisu is there for fans of cute cards, and Helioptile/Heliolisk complete the group.
Psychic Type
Psychic is the standout type of Mega Evolution. Mega Gardevoir ex is the most iconic Mega in the set, and its Mega Hyper Rare is one of the two big chase cards. Alakazam, Xerneas, Shedinja (which evolves from Nincada, a Grass card here) and the Greavard/Houndstone line make it a strong block.
Fighting Type
Fighting is one of the biggest types in the set (17 cards) and has the other big star: Mega Lucario ex. Its gold Mega Hyper Rare is the number one chase card of ME01 for many collectors. The Nacli/Naclstack/Garganacl line, Marshadow and the classic Sandshrew/Sandslash fill out a large block.
Darkness Type
Mega Absol ex is the set's Darkness lead and one of the best-designed Megas. The legendary Yveltal adds weight to the type, while Spiritomb, Nickit/Thievul and the Shroodle/Grafaiai pair are interesting for both play and collecting.
Metal Type
Metal brings Mega Mawile ex, a Mega not everyone saw coming, with great artwork on its Secret Rare versions. Steelix is the heavy Basic, the legendary Dialga gives the type some weight, and the Tinkatink to Tinkaton line is pure Gen 9 charm. Gholdengo closes the block.
Dragon Type
Only two Dragon cards, but a strong pair. Mega Latias ex is the only Dragon Mega in the set, and its Special Illustration Rare is one of the prettiest in ME01. Latios joins it as a support Basic.
Colorless Type
Mega Kangaskhan ex leads the Colorless block and is one of the community's favorite Megas. Miltank, Lopunny and the Yungoos/Gumshoos line are solid picks. Stufful/Bewear close out a varied type.
Trainers
The Trainer block matters for both play and collecting. Acerola's Mischief, Lillie's Determination and Wally's Compassion are the Supporters with Full Art and SIR versions. Rare Candy, Ultra Ball and Switch are the usual classics, and new cards such as Mega Signal, Fighting Gong and Premium Power Pro shape play in the Mega era.

See Mega Evolution in the storeIllustration Rares (133-154)
The ME01 Illustration Rares are 22 cards with artwork that runs past the usual card border. They're the most accessible Secret Rares, and still beautiful. The Vulpix, Inteleon and Marshadow IRs stand out in the group.
Ultra Rares (155-176)
The Ultra Rares are Full Art versions of the 10 Mega ex and of 12 Trainer cards, with full-card alternate artwork, and they're the next step up from the IRs. Mega Gardevoir ex UR and Mega Lucario ex UR are the most valued in the group, but Full Art Supporters such as Lillie's Determination and Acerola's Mischief also draw plenty of interest.
Special Illustration Rares (177-186)
The SIRs are the jewels of the set. Just 10 cards, each with a unique illustration covering the whole card in a style very different from the regular art. The Mega Gardevoir ex, Mega Venusaur ex and Mega Lucario ex SIRs are among the most valued cards of the Mega Evolution era. The Supporter SIRs (Acerola, Lillie, Lt. Surge and Wally) are also superb artwork.
Mega Hyper Rares (187-188)
And at the very top are the Mega Hyper Rares, the new highest rarity in the Pokémon TCG, introduced with this era. Only 2 per set, with a gold finish and very low pull rates. The gold Mega Gardevoir ex and Mega Lucario ex are the chase cards of ME01. Pull one and you've hit the collector's jackpot.
